The 'succhetta' (so it is also called the yellow plum of Lio Piccolo), arrived in Venice from Western Asia and it was a highly appreciated fruit already during the Serenissima. Especially in the islands of the lagoon, the cultivation of this fruit remained widespread until, in 1966, there was a flood that destroyed many orchards and moved production to a purely family level.

The yellow plum has a typical roundish shape, is small in size and has a smooth and thin golden-yellow skin. Inside the pulp is juicy and tasty and wraps a small core. The maturation of the fruit is concentrated in the first half of July and the harvest is strictly manual because each fruit must be chosen individually so as to taste the right maturation. Given the delicacy, even the packaging for transport must be taken care of in detail and the packaging requires the utmost attention.

These plums, which contain a good amount of vitamin and potassium, are usually tasted fresh even if sometimes you can find delicious jams or fruit preserves. For the purchase of these delicious fruits, go to the greengrocers in Venice or go to the Rialto market where, together with fruit and vegetables, a little further on there are also 'bacarelle' with fresh fish, freshly caught.
